CARHA Hockey Participant Information & Waiver 2026/2027
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to sign a waiver?
CARHA Hockey provides sport accident and liability insurance to teams and leagues across Canada. As a condition of this insurance program, every participant must complete a waiver before participating. This is a standard practice in organized sport and helps protect the Association, players, volunteers, leagues, facilities and the long-term availability of affordable insurance.
What am I agreeing to?
By signing the waiver, you acknowledge that hockey involves inherent risks, you voluntarily choose to participate, and you agree to the legal terms that apply to participation. You also acknowledge your responsibilities regarding your own health and personal insurance coverage.
Am I signing away all my legal rights?
No. The waiver asks you to waive certain legal rights relating to injuries or losses arising from participation in hockey activities, to the extent permitted by law. Like most sport participation waivers, it includes a release of certain legal claims while preserving any rights that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
Why does the waiver mention Ontario law?
CARHA Hockey resides in the province of Ontario and administers insurance programs across Canada. Using one governing jurisdiction creates one consistent legal agreement for all participants. This does not remove or limit any rights that cannot legally be waived.
What happens if I choose not to sign?
Signing the waiver is a condition of participation in the CARHA Hockey insurance program.
If you choose not to sign the waiver:
- You are not eligible for coverage under the CARHA Hockey insurance program.
- You are not eligible to participate with a registered team or league insured through CARHA Hockey.
These requirements help ensure that all participants are insured under the same terms and that teams, leagues and facilities remain protected.
